Outdoor Feed Storage
Good feed is one of the largest ongoing costs for farms and equine yards. Leaving it exposed puts it at risk, therefore wasting your money. As soon as the feed gets wet it is at risk of growing mould, vermin or nutrient loss.
A steel shelter is a simple yet permanent solution to this issue. Constructed with galvanised steel and plastisol-coated roof and side panels provides you with a structure that shields from rain, resists condensation and doesn’t require annual treatment. A steel shelter for outdoor feed storage is a building that is solid and weathertight from day one, no rotting timber and no sagging felt roofing.

Outdoor Animal Feed Storage
What makes a good feed store? At Steel Shelters Direct we believe that it is a covered space offering enough room to stack and access bales or bags. It must have good airflow to prevent moisture build up and should protect your feed from the rain or rodents. While timber buildings may tick some of those boxes they require ongoing maintenance and frequently rot.
Steel is the perfect solution. Our shelters are constructed from a galvanised steel frame that doesn’t absorb moisture. As they have open fronts this enables air to move freely throughout the shelter, reducing the risk of mould. The open access also makes it easier to load and unload.

Field Shelter for Feed Storage
Our mono-pitched Field Shelters are perfect for yards or smallholdings that have manageable feed volumes and value flexibility. With a width of 3m and lengths up to 18m, we have the shelter for your needs, whether that’s feed for 2 animals or 200 animals.
With 2.3m-2.5m height and an open front they make stacking and access easy. Optional skid mounting means that they can be relocated in your yard without having to dismantle them. This is useful if you need change or you are wanting to move them away from muddy gateways.

Pitched Shelter for Larger Feed Storage
Our pitched shelters give you the storage to efficiently run your farm or yard. They are 6m wide and available in lengths from 6m to 15m.
The open-front ensures that the shelter is ventilated and the apex roof allows rain to run off the roof efficiently. The galvanised steel means that the base will stay structurally sound even where the ground-level damp would rot timber away.

Why Choose Steel Shelters Direct?
At Steel Shelters Direct, we construct our shelters to agricultural specification. The 1.5mm cold-rolled galvanised steel frame and plastisol box-profile cladding match the materials that farms and equestrian yards use across the UK.
We offer nationwide delivery and our shelters are delivered with all the necessary fixings and clear assembly instructions included. Most of our customers build them in a small team using basic tools, no need for specialist contractors. As theory is no paint to touch-up or timber to treat, your ongoing costs are low.

Frequently Asked Questions
-
How do you anchor a steel feed storage shelter?
You must secure your shelter to firm, level ground. The most common method is bolting the frame down to a concrete slab using anchor bolts.
For full guidance on base preparation and anchoring, explore our pre-installation guide.
-
Will a steel shelter keep feed dry in the UK?
Yes. Our steel shelters are constructed with a 0.5mm plastisol box profile roof and side panels designed to effectively shed rain and resist dampness. Our galvanised steel frames won’t rust under normal conditions. To keep feed dry you must ensure it is on a well-drained, level concrete or hardcore surface to prevent ground moisture getting into feed.
-
What are skids on a steel shelter?
Skids are steel runners. On our Field Shelters they are manufactured from 150×75 channel steel. This sits under the shelter frame. They allow the entire structure to move location without having to dismantle it.
